有子曰：“其为人也孝弟，而好犯上者，鲜矣；不好犯上，而好作乱者，未之有也。君子务本，本立而道生。孝弟也者，其为仁之本与！”
Translation:
You Zi said: "A person who is filial and fraternal is unlikely to be willing to offend those above him. He is unlikely to be willing to foment rebellion. As for a gentleman who lays a solid foundation, only then can his path bear fruit. Is not filial piety and brotherly respect the root of humanity?"
2. 为政篇
2.1
子曰：“为政以德，譬如北辰，居其所而众星共之。”
Translation:
The Master said: "Governing through moral excellence can be compared to the pole star, which remains in its place while all the other stars revolve around it."
2.2
子曰：“君子食无求饱，居无求安，敏于事而慎于言，就有道而正焉，可谓好学也已。”
Translation:
The Master said: "A gentleman does not seek to satisfy his appetite to the full, nor to live in excessive comfort. He is diligent in his duties and cautious in his speech. If he is eager to learn and eager to put his learning into practice, then he may be called a lover of learning."
3. 八佾篇
3.1
子曰：“夷狄之有君，不如诸夏之亡也。”
Translation:
The Master said: "The rule of barbarians is better than the chaos of the Xia dynasty."
3.2
子曰：“君子无所争，必也射乎！揖让而升，下而饮。其斯而已矣。”
Translation:
The Master said: "A gentleman does not engage in competition, but when shooting, he observes all the rules of propriety: he salutes, offers the first cup of wine to others, and takes the last cup himself. That's all there is to it."
