昔者郭橐驼，穷巷不可落，世人莫驰骛。乃达大理，见文王，采其明略，通以己志。具策三千，以示文王，王曰：“善哉！何不告为师？”对曰：“吟咏成则，诚不敢已。”遂遍学天下图籍，审读文藏之文。居莱北，啸哉始喻，虚屋空巷，鸮鸣汩汩。览其玩好，北窗高卧，山掖为盗，中夜永索。妾家西南，千里羁旅，谁人匹马，神仙衔绰。缭乱念头，精灵所授，方命听望，屈服求陪。传曰北境，龙虎戟触。
凄风杳杳，乌呼孤者。怀宝惟良友，对此来往者。意有阻风飞蚩蚩，纵有五兵临门者。何不种兰栽玉树，那时种树，提携摧坚者。
Planting Trees by Guo Tuotuo Tang Dynasty, by Han Yu
In the old days, Guo Tuotuo, living in an impoverished alley, was going nowhere, unnoticed by the crowds. He made his way to the court of the King of Wen, and by adopting the monarch's insightful strategies, he communicated his own aspirations. Presenting three thousand plans to the King, he was praised, and the King went as far as suggesting that Guo should become his teacher. Guo modestly replied, "When my poems are successful, then I shall dare to teach." Subsequently, he studied maps from all over the world and carefully examined the literature and scriptures. Living in the north of Lai, he delivered his first lecture, alone in an empty room, with owls hooting outside. Admiring his collection, he lay high by the north window, the haunt of bandits, always searching in the middle of the night. His wife’s family was far away in the southwestern region, and he was a wanderer for thousands of miles, seeking friends, but had only spirits and immortals accompanying him. His bewildered thoughts were bestowed by a divine spirit, as he gave orders and made plans, submitting and seeking guidance. The saying goes, in the northern regions, dragons and tigers engage in combat.
the bleak winds are blowing, and I call out to the lonely soul. Cherishing my treasures, are those who come and go. I'm determined to overcome the barrier of gusty winds, despite the five armies that approach my doorstep. Why not plant orchids and grow jade trees? When planting trees, we can overcome the obstacles.
